Are you one of the 5 million?

Dear Friend,

Stand up for your right to vote. Join Today! The past few elections have been decided on the margins - where truly every vote counts. So your vote matters and it is essential that special interests are not allowed to block your vote.

Groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) are a factory for anti-voter legislation with power barons like the Koch Brothers, McDonalds, Kraft Foods and Pfizer providing the funding to make sure that citizens like you will not be allowed at the polls this election season.

Unless we fight back against voter suppression schemes dreamed up by ALEC and its corporate funders, as many as five million eligible voters could be turned away from the polls in the 2012 elections.

This is why I'm counting on you to help us fight back by joining the League of Women Voters today.

Each time that corporate special interests put up another barrier to voting, the League needs to be there to remove it. These partisan special interests know that when fewer people vote, they are better able to manipulate the outcome in their favor.

But the League of Women Voters is prepared to stand up to these well-funded special interests.

We are fighting state by state to overturn or oppose discriminatory anti-voter laws. When lawmakers in Maine passed legislation banning Election Day voter registration, the League led a petition drive to put the law before the voters - who overwhelmingly voted to repeal it. Now we are mobilizing our grassroots network to stop a new round of laws in Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Help us preserve your right to vote in this year's elections today by joining the League of Women Voters.

The League was borne out of the struggle for universal suffrage. It remains our rallying cry and abiding principle. Over the years, we have fought poll taxes, literacy tests and any other attack on the rights of voters. This is our issue.

We are the most trusted voice, with effective and passionate volunteers working to involve more citizens in the elections and advocate for a government that puts people, not special interest first. No one does this better than the League of Women Voters.

Join the League of Women Voters today and help us fight for a strong, vibrant democracy that reflects the diversity of voices in our vast nation.

Sincerely,
 Elisabeth MacNamara

P.S. The first votes of the 2012 presidential race have already been cast but it's not too late to get to work. With your help the League will take back power from the special interests. Please join us today.
