7. I am seeking the County Council Seat for District 2 in Volusia County
8. Educational Background- Four Year Degree from International Seminary in Biblical Studies, currently enrolled at Daytona Beach Community College for Global and Historical Studies, studied Business Law, and I also hold certificates in Fire Science, Correctional Officer Training, and People Skills.
9. Occupation, Training and Experience- I have worked as a fireman and as a correctional officer.
10. A. The first issue is jobs. I would go to various companies, such as, Dell, Microsoft, Ford Motors etc. and find out what their specific needs would be in order to move to the Volusia County area. I would let them know that we have several different colleges and universities that would help to fulfill the work force. This would solve the employment for both old and young people in our area. The next issue is retirees and thier silent anger. Older workers are being forced to retire and then have nowhere else to go because of the retirement systems. For example, if you were a school teacher you could not then go and work for the hospital or the state because of the way the system works. We need private companies to come in and give these people who have Masters, and Doctorate degrees the opportunity to stay in Volusia county rather than having to move out of state to utilize their degrees after retirement. The taxes from these companies would help to alleviate the pressure that we are under concerning healthcare. The money that would be collected in taxes could then go towards funding healthcare clinics for the poor and in need.
B. My position is that anytime the federal government gives money to the state there are strings attached. Whenever the state allocates money to the various counties in the state the strings are still attached. I feel that the only way to escape this cycle is to become more self sufficient by raising the economic status of the citizens. Infrastructure if more than just roads and bridges it is also the people affected. All of these things require funding.
11. The County Council must lead by example and this is done through the introduction of industrialization. we need to revitalize our communities with major industries that create jobs that will in turn bring forth revenue. One cannot be done without the other This would increase the pay rate within our county wherein as it standsVolusia County is one if the lowest paying counties in the state of Florida out of 67 counties. This is what creates the lack in our revenue base. We can no longer afford to be considered as a Bed and Breakfast community. Revitalization will increase revenue. That will increase our work force, for example, Volusia County Fire Department is undermanned. There should a three man crew for every call, but in some stations only two are being sent out posing a real threat to the communites.
12. It is very important that we maintain the Votran bus lines so that our citizens will still be able to go to work, the hospital, and the grocery stores. If gas prices are to keep going up, more people will begin to requent the bus. We should also look into a rail system, especially from Miami to Jacksonville in order to conserve individual fuel comsumption. Implementing a rail service will also create more jobs.
13. It is vitally important that we address more extensively our healthcare issues. We have primary healthcare for pregnant women and children, but there is nothing for the poor. These issues should be addressed before they become a major crisis so that we can stop using our emergency rooms and primary healthcare facilites. Education is also very vital to the growth of the community. We need better funding for our schools, and need to interject arts and crafts, social studies and real life application into our schools.
