Question 10

A)     Taxes and spending: The tax burden on the local citizens is choking us all. We must be sensitive and careful to listen to the needs of the citizens and stop telling them that we know what is best for them.  The beach needs overhauling… signage, ramps, rest rooms, cleaner approaches. Local government can provide shared policing and emergency service and that will shave around $ 4,000,000.00 off existing budgets which can go to enhancing the beach experience

B)   We must start somewhere. Government needs to curb its spending habits and live within its means just as the citizens have to. There are many way to save tax dollars for needed programs and we must explore all of the options.  Ex: Reduce or limit the cost of maintaining Beach Rangers and redirect these tax dollars to areas of higher priority.

Question 11

We must maintain current levels of service. We can postpone salary increases and benefits to insure better funding for our library, Votran , health dept, childrens services and others.

Question 12

Votran must be maintained for the working poor, senior citizens and the disabled. We need to explore extending hours & routes where they are needed.

Question 13

Insure Historical Heritage and Preservation. Create open green spaces. these should be priorities.  We are really close to that happening. Initial efforts are promising, but we must close the deal in these two areas.

EX: Environmental set asides. We can provide incentives for farmer up front to keep farming and have them agree not to sell their land to a developer for development. Buy these rights.
