10. A1) The Economy - Our district and our state are hurting right
now, people need jobs that pay a living wage in order to
keep their heads above water. Foreclosures are at an all
time high, gas prices are outrageous, and we need some relief
in the worst way.
A2) Education - Our district (27) and our county of Volusia took
the biggest hit of the Education budget cuts and I don't
understand why, we were cut by $45.8 million dollars
resulting in the closing of 7 schools in Volusia County
alone. We lost approximately 220 teachers and there's
probably more cuts to come, we have to address this immediately
that's why I want to represent the people of District 27!
B) The State Legislature should not be dictating Local govern-
ment's taxation and revenue policies, the local people elect
their leaders and they are the ones who should make those
calls as to their local budgets because they know better
than the State as to what their constituent’s needs are.
11. I would support any sensible legislation to sustain Florida's
clean fresh water but I don't think that we should start taking
water from the St. John's River.
12. I'm hoping that amendment 5 does not pass because it would be a
good idea if it didn't have the provision in it to raise our sales
taxes. Once it fails, I would like to introduce it again but
this time without the sales tax increase. It wasn't so long that
the State funded nearly 75% of our Education budget and I think
that it's time for them to do it again.
13. HEALTH CARE is at a crisis level in the State of Florida and in
District 27. The numbers are: 1 in 5 Floridians are uninsured and
over 500,000 children are without health insurance this is pathetic,
we must do something about it ASAP. For one, we need to take
another vote on the Kid-Care legislation and hopefully pass it this
time.
