Questions asked of all candidates:

  1. Please answer the following questions as it related to the office you are seeking.

    1. Name the two most important issues that you believe are of concern to your district and how would you address each.

Maintaining an educational facility in The City of Oak Hill - The School Board of Volusia County dictated to our city the closing of Oak Hill Burns Elementary.  To counteract the crippling effect this will have on our city, I have and continue to promote the opening of a Charter school to maintain our community center.

Community Growth - The great continuing challenge for Oak Hill is figuring out how to grow in a sustainable way that preserves community character, outdoor opportunities, and economic vitality.  The City of Oak Hill staff, committees and elected officials must grasp and seek out opportunities to re-invest in this city's established community, provide parks, recreational amenities and promote economic growth.

b.      What is your position on the State Legislature dictating local government taxation and revenue policy?  Defend your position.

This year, with Amendment 1 impact not yet realized, this present commission has had to deal with cutbacks in constituent services and with the consideration of a freeze on local revenues, our city is struggling to find a way to meet local needs and provide adequate services to the people we serve without increasing their tax burden.  Essentially, with State Legislature dictating our taxation and revenue policy they are impeding our ability to provide needed services to the people we represent.  To hand down further mandates that are at this time unfunded is catastrophic to our small city.

The next questions are specific to the office you are seeking.

Currently a new management plan for the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve is under development and due out by June 2009. What issues should be addressed or included in the plan that would be most beneficial to Oak Hill?  Since most of the originally designated preserve is now under the ownership and management of the federal government, I feel it imperative for our small fishing community that the remaining part of the preserve continue under the Ownership of the State of Florida with intergovernmental stewardship.

How would you improve the Oak Hill city Website to better serve your constituents?  The City of Oak Hill continues the process of reviewing our website to allow the constituents better access to needed documentation and forms.  We are researching streaming video for those not able to attend Council Meetings to be able to watch from their computer in their home.

  1. Name a specific issue that we have not addressed that you feel is important to your constituents.   Maintaining a county run library within our city limits.
