Maintaining
an educational facility in The City of Oak Hill - The School Board of Volusia
County dictated to our city the closing of Oak Hill Burns Elementary. To counteract the crippling effect this will
have on our city, I have and continue to promote the opening of a Charter
school to maintain our community center.
Community
Growth - The great
continuing challenge for Oak Hill is figuring out how to grow in a sustainable
way that preserves community character, outdoor opportunities, and economic
vitality. The City of Oak Hill staff,
committees and elected officials must grasp and seek out opportunities to
re-invest in this city's established community, provide parks, recreational
amenities and promote economic growth.
b. What is your position on the State Legislature
dictating local government taxation and revenue policy? Defend your position.
This year, with Amendment 1 impact not yet realized, this
present commission has had to deal with cutbacks in constituent services and
with the consideration of a freeze on local revenues, our city is struggling to
find a way to meet local needs and provide adequate services to the people we
serve without increasing their tax burden.
Essentially, with State Legislature dictating our taxation and revenue
policy they are impeding our ability to provide needed services to the people
we represent. To hand down further
mandates that are at this time unfunded is catastrophic to our small city.

to the office you are seeking.
Currently a new management plan for the Mosquito
Lagoon Aquatic Preserve is under development and due out by June 2009. What
issues should be addressed or included in the plan that would be most
beneficial to Oak Hill? Since
most of the originally designated preserve is now under the ownership and
management of the federal government, I feel it imperative for our small
fishing community that the remaining part of the preserve continue under the Ownership
of the State of
How would you improve the Oak Hill city Website to
better serve your constituents? The City
of Oak Hill continues the process of reviewing our website to allow the
constituents better access to needed documentation and forms. We are researching streaming video for those
not able to attend Council Meetings to be able to watch from their computer in
their home.
