10.       a. The two most important issues within this district are;

            1. Insurance – The cost has kept many from keeping proper coverage on their homes and many have lost coverage due to the insurer’s ability to dictate where and when they place insurance. To correct this we need to hold the Insurer accountable for their actions and how they write and spread risk.

            2. Taxes – There has been no solid solution to the property tax issue in this area or the state, we need to take a hard look at the current method of taxing and redraft from the ground up not continue putting band aids on to try to patch work a tax proposal. In order to correct this I would bring together a group of Assessor’s, Economist, Business Leaders and Citizen group to look at all possibilities and arrive at a manageable solution that is palatable to all.

            b. The State needs to be more of an overseer of the tax and revenue policies of local governments giving direction and advice when needed.

11. I would support legislation that offers alternatives to the current use policies and conservation measures i.e., drought tolerant plantings, less use of St. Augustine grass, ways to capture rain water possibly with the use of cisterns and seek ways to use more recycled water than is currently being utilized. Protection comes in part from saving the waterways and aquifer from contamination due to chemicals, pollutants and other runoff, keeping these away from sensitive areas and fining polluters and mandating the cleanup of an area that has been polluted at the expense of the person or entity that caused the pollution.

12. Public Education is as you state a citizen’s right, unfortunately we continue to reduce the monies available to education and fail to take action in this area. We need as a state to fully support education as a means to a more productive work force, higher paying jobs and in the long term a reduction in crime as it has been proven that individuals with a better education will be less likely to get into trouble and will be more productive members of society.
